for today

outside my window..........it's raining, it's pouring and clouds, wind and MUD abound.

i am thinking..............about whether i should wake the kids up or not. it is 7:45 a.m.

i am thankful for................heat, warm blankets and my cup of brewing tea-green tea with yerba mate, milk and honey.

from the schoolroom..............math, dictation, spelling and reading aloud The Trumpet of the Swan. the middle kids have photography and art class this afternoon.

in the kitchen...............hot chocolate, toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

i am wearing...........leopard pj pants and a black long-sleeved shirt.

i am creating............something for a little peach, a few things for valentine's day, lacy linen napkins.

i am going..............to clean my room and do some sewing this afternoon.

i am reading..............simple abundance and the imitation of Christ.

i am hoping...............my slight headache goes away, it feels kind of like a sinus headache.
i am hearing................raindrops, the hum of the heater, goats bleating(?) (from the neighbors' yard), birds playing in the rain, the click of the keyboard and a little boy snoring in my bed.

around the house..........the laundry is under control, the front room is tidy (we picked it up last night before bed), the schoolroom needs a little bit of work and there are a few dishes, but not too many.

one of my favorite things.............kids who entertain themselves despite the rainy, gloomy weather.

a few plans for the rest of the week............make and send valentines, deep clean the boy's room, trip to the snow, make chocolate dipped marshmallows, plant a few more irises, lilies and some daisies, go see inkheart.

here are two picture thoughts i am sharing.............

my REAL daybook

no simple woman daybook today.
i am just not feeling it.
but here is a peek at my REAL daybook.
the one with all of my life plans, hopes and dreams in it.
i carry it with me everywhere, but the pages are almost done
and as you can see, i don't want to part with its' sunflower-y goodness
and so an idea, an ORIGINAL idea, popped into my head.
so yes, these fingerless gloves come from my imagination,
so if you've seen something like them before,
please don't tell me because it will spoil the fun for me.
i am rarely creative enough to think up my own ideas,
but i really feel these are an original.
unless all the whos down in whoville are wearing them.
don't they look like something the whos would wear?

i know i could've had a career as a hand-model.

but i chose homeschooling instead!

ps. stay tuned for the "stem and leaf".

for today

outside my window........ sunny, but very cold

i am thinking............about how i wish there wasn't so much to be done

i am thankful for..........trees full of yummy oranges, heat, healthy kids, a husband who finally went back to work, a functioning washer, true friends, beautiful places to visit that are really close by

from the kitchen............vanilla yogurt with frozen blueberries, a new recipe i am going to try out for flax seed and garlic crackers, chicken with brown rice and veggies for dinner

in our schoolroom.............a mess of material, folded laundry, coloring pages, pencils, but not too bad really, today we'll discuss a visit we had from the department of food and agriculture regarding fruit fly traps

i am creating.............3 pairs of fingerless gloves/hand warmers, a few potholders, and some pretty new dishtowels and a new apron

i am going........................to write out a grocery store list, to check for ingredients we'll need for our king's cake

i am wearing................layers-an olive green lacy tank top, black baby doll top and grey sweater, jeans, striped teal, olive, brown, green, blue and beige socks

i am reading..................a mother's rule of life (again), marshmallow to my little one

i am hoping.................to find our epiphany chalk to do the house blessing tomorrow, to take another trip up to my parent's mountain house for more pictures

i am hearing................scissors, cutting, the cats being fed, running, lots of boy noises: fighting, jumping, etc.

around the house................it's messy, but mostly just picking up and putting away to do. i'll be tackling the big stuff room by room, day by day for the next week. it can be overwhelming to think of the house as ONE project. better to do it little by little.

one of my favorite things...............yarn

a few plans for the rest of the week................epiphany tomorrow, lesson plans based on the liturgical year, focus on math and reading, getting rid of some junk

here are some picture thoughts i am sharing with you from our sunday afternoon (yesterday)...

For Today........

Outside my window..........there are some birds calling me to take their pictures.

I am thinking................about all of the things I have to do today and this week.

I am thankful for.................a husband who went to work this morning.

From the kitchen..........oatmeal served with cut-up granny smith apples, walnuts, cinnamon

and milk.

I am wearing............red pj pants and a long sleeve red shirt (hey it's still early!)

I am creating......................."St. Nicholas day-in-a-box" for a very special family who is celebrating their FIRST Christmas as Catholics.

I am reading...........a Family Circle Magazine and my Magnificat.

I am hoping......................to finish the quilted Advent Calender this week, it is coming along nicely, but I decided to hand stitch all of the little pockets, so it is taking longer than I expected.

I am hearing........................the hum of the computer, everyone is still sleeping!

Around the house.............the usual post-Sunday mess, a lot of dishes left over after a visit from family.

A few plans for the rest of the week.............baking: cranberry muffins and oatmeal rolls, a long trip to my grandmother's house which will mean a break from blogging, lots of family time with my parents, husband and kids, finding and getting all of our Advent things ready for next Sunday, finishing up and sending off my ornaments for the Kids' Ornament Swap, I'd better stop because the list could go on and on............

Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you:

This is how seriously we take our math work around here..........

For Today
Outside my window.........The day is beginning and the yard is calling me to "clean up!"
I am thinking............about a friend who moved to Colorado, who I am missing and how the pumpkin candle I just bought smells like her home used to.
From the kitchen..........the smell of my mother's birthday meal is filling the house.
In our school room................the finished Viking ships, nature treasures, Thanksgiving books, two new Martha Stewart crafts for kids projects and a few new things to prepare us for Advent.
I am creating........a crocheted winter purse made from some beautiful yarn.
I am going........to clean every room in this house today.
I am wearing.........jeans, a cream colored cotton t-shirt and leopard slippers.
I am reading..........My November Magnificat.
I am hoping.........to tattoo this on my forehead: "Never intrude yourself into an office to which you have not been called, and never refuse any one that is given you. By following this rule, you will enjoy wonderful peace. God will bless all your exertions and the success with which your labors are crowned will not anywise diminish your merit..........."~Bishop Benedict Joseph Fenwick, S.J. (t1846)
I am hearing..........a little boy jumping around like he is a frog and saying "ribbit!", the sounds of a middle son taking a shower and a little girl saying her morning prayers.
Around the house..............fish tanks need to be cleaned out, there is laundry to be sorted and birthday cards for Nannie are in the works.
One of my favorite things...........4 new candles: pumpkin spice, mulled cider, warm apple pie and hazelnut cream.
A Few Plans for the Rest of the Week..........finishing up our Viking unit, knitting lessons from a dear friend, possibly a girls' night out with two busy friends??, a little bit of quiet time with each child and movie nights (c/o netflix) with my husband.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you.........

The Footprint of a small boy I know, proof that he frequently runs around our property without shoes on.
